1. Veszprém county.
2. The whole administrative areas of the following settlements in Győr-Moson-Sopron county: Bakonygyirót, Bakonyszentlászló, Fenyőfő, Románd, Sikátor, Veszprémvarsány
3. Zala county, except the whole administrative areas of the following settlements: Csöde, Felsőszenterzsébet, Magyarföld, Szentgyörgyvölgy, Zalalövő
4. The whole administrative areas of the following settlements in Somogy county: Ádánd, Nagyberény, Nyim, Som, Szőkedencs and the settlements belonging to the Lake Balaton Outstanding Resort Area, except the whole administrative area of Marcali.
Administrative structure:
The Balaton Uplands National Park Directorate is an independent legal entity financed by state budget, independently managed, and operates under the direction of the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Water Conservancy.
The Directorate is headed by the director who is the employer of the employees of the Directorate. The financial director of the Directorate is appointed by the minister, having regard to the proposal from the director of the National Park Directorate.
Tasks of the Balaton Uplands National Directorate:
- Organises and operates the Nature Conservation Guard of the Directorate, helps the Municipal Nature Conservation Guard direction and takes part in supplying of guarding duties related to the protection of archeological heritage.
- Fulfills tasks related to state research on nature conservation, maintenance and restoration of habitats.
- Operates monitoring and information systems related to its tasks, contributes to other information and controlling systems.
- Maintains and operates demonstrational, educational and turistical establishments, and takes part in research, education and propagation of general knowledge on nature conservation.
- Keeps contact with other organisations and natural persons fulfilling nature conservation management tasks.
- As an advisor it participates in public proceedings related to nature and landscape protection.
- Fulfills tasks related to the management of state property.
- Fulfills tasks related to the management of protected and strictly protected natural values, protected and strictly protected natural areas, Natura 2000 sites, natural areas and values protected by international agreements values, excluding tasks provided to other bodies or natural persons by law.
- Fulfills the preparatory tasks touching the jurisdiction of the minister related to regional forest- and game management plans.
- Fullfills tasks - determined in separate laws - related to the declaration of areas protected or Natura 2000, furthermore to the establishment and operation of environmentally sensitive areas.
- Determines the condition of strictly protected caves which require particular attention, and which are directly endangered by environmental harms.
- Prepares nature conservation management plans.
- Prepares plans for the maintenance and management of protected plant associations/vegetation types.
- Takes care of the safe-keeping/preservation of seized natural values.
- Pays attention on the condition of nature and natural values.
- Contributes to the protection of non-protected natural flora and fauna (huntable and catchable game- and fish species, ancient domesticated animal species, varieties and gene pool of these).
- Contributes to the fulfilment of tasks - determined in separate laws - related to agricultural-environmental protection programs.
In the operational area of the Directorate
- 1 national park (67.019 ha),
- 3 protected landscape areas (9.336 ha),
- 26 nature conservation areas (5.160 ha), and as part of the Natura 2000 network
- 4 SPA sites (100.578 ha) and
- 48 pSCI sites (233.291 ha) can be found.
